You may remember before Christmas, TAG petitioned Telferscot parents to establish a mandate for lobbying the council into purchasing the adjacent church hall land.

We collected 146 signatures which was a great response. If you’d like to sign a petition you can still download it here and hand it in at the school office:

As the school’s expansion and the housing development continue to be discussed, this is a really powerful way of us showing governors and the council how the majority of parents feel about the issue.

Perhaps we’ve managed to persuade Lambeth council to delay their decision on the Church Hall development - we’re really not sure - but it’s NOT on the planning committee agenda tomorrow night (Tues 26th Feb).

Please DON’T go to the town hall tomorrow night because we won’t be there!! If you know anyone who mentioned they might be going, please do let them know. Thanks.

The Church Hall has been too quickly dismissed as a derelict eyesore during our campaign. Add a few kids and it’s amazing how the place comes to life.

We’re a bit hazy on the details of these photos, taken by Telferscot dad James Muchmore, but we think they were taken in the Spring of 2010 when people from the Garden Museum on Lambeth Palace Road came and showed the kids how to grow things; seeds, plants and they even brought fruit trees apparently.

Will we have the space to do activities like this in the future…..

The newsletter is encouraging evidence that Lambeth are taking notice of our campaign. We will continue to push them for 2FE on the expanded Church Hall site because we think that, based on educational need, it is the most appropriate solution of all those under consideration.

TAG recently met with Lib Peck, Leader of Lambeth Council. She indicated that two-form entry expansion of the school on to the church hall site is not completely out of the question. There are still many hurdles to overcome, not least the potential purchase of the land, but Lib encouraged TAG and the school to respond to Lambeth’s proposals and make the educational case for needing an expanded site for two-form entry. So we did!

“Hyde Farm is a conservation area. Surely, this means we should be attempting to preserve the history and buildings within the conservation area? The hall may need some repairs but with a little work it could easily be restored. It seems a terrible shame to me to knock down such an interesting building which is one of a kind amongst the surrounding residential buildings.”

“Over the years the school has expanded and even when I was there the one small school hall was not enough space for assemblies, PE, Yoga, Dance and Dinners to happen on a regular basis without careful timetabling. Now that the school has 2 extra classes I can not see how timetabling can be manipulated to allow all of these things to continue for every student, every week. Primary children need space to meet together as a school to physically move and it looks like future expansion of the school will continue.”
